About this artist

Wendy Shapiro grew up in New England, studying art at the Danforth Museum of Art and throughout college. She is drawn to color theory and media experimentation, with a portfolio containing watercolor, charcoal, pastel, acrylic, and photography. Her monochromatic pieces are uniquely textured, with a landscape effect. Organizations such as WGBH, the Marriott Residence Inn, as well as private collections and galleries have selected her work for display. Shapiro recalls her travels amidst varied landscapes as inspiration, with coastal urban living and industrial concrete aesthetics intertwining. With calm seas and metallic roughness, her paintings capture memories of boating on the east coast and mesmerizing horizon lines. In this Sustainable Series (2016), white shows simplicity, cracks display fragility, and sand feels calming in a chaotic world. Shapiro suggests the viewer step back to contemplate the perspective of vast horizons. Her paint gives off low chemical emissions, as Shapiro practically and artistically is conscious of the changing environment, and its effect on her landscapes.
