Guillermo Silva Santamaria (1921-2007) was a well known Colombian Surrealist painter and printmaker. He used medieval European knights as a subject matter along with bright, rich colors in many of his prints. Guillermo exhibited his works on 4 continents during his career as well as taught his techniques to many while in Mexico.

About this artist

Guillermo Silva Santamaria (1921-2007) was a well known Colombian Surrealist painter and printmaker. Guillermo was born in Bogota, Colombia on June 7 of 1921. He studied art across Latin America in schools and workshops as well as traveling to the United States and Europe. Guillermo moved to Mexico in the 1960’s, where he taught his techniques to many. He has been shown in many fine galleries and museums all across 4 continents for many years, including the familiar Brooklyn Museum, Boston Museum and Library of Congress. His style was most known for its bright and rich colors, humor and Surrealist tone.
