About Mike Ryon:
Ryon (Mike Ryon) was born in Ohio and began drawing at age 4. Raised in New York and Chapel Hill, he was torn between becoming an architect or an artist. Although his father pushed him towards architecture, Ryon shifted to studying art after losing interest in his architecture courses at North Carolina State University. Before pursuing art, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. After his service, he studied art history at the University of North Carolina and was later accepted into Ringling College of Art & Design. While studying Commercial Design and Illustration he worked as a cartoonist for the Sarasota Herald Tribune.
As an impressionist and colorist he is known for his large works in watercolor. Among Ryon’s recent accomplishments are: Accepted in the 2000 Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society,1998 Winsor & Newton Competition Second Place Winner for North America, 1999 Cambridge Art Association National Prize Show Finalist, and he is now a Biltmore Estate Licensed Artist.
