Johanan Herson was born in 1950 in Montreal, Canada. His artistic talent was clear from a young age. He studied art through ballet and theater. Herson moved to Israel in 1967 to study at the Bezal’el Art Academy in Jerusalem. He continued his studies at Concordia University in Montreal and majored in drama. He then specialized in “Soft Art” for several years alongside Calman Shemi.
