Jody Roan:
Born in Manhattan, Kansas, Jody Roan experienced a lot of cultures and countries in her early years, including the Philippines, Japan, India, and China, where she went to an international school in Hong Kong. She would then move back to America to major and graduate with a BFA in Illustration at Kendall College of Art and Design.
The main influences of Roan’s style is mainly derived from twentieth century artists, specifically Jeff Koons’ use of playfulness and fun, Marc Chagall’s sense of mystical and dream-like qualities, and Wayne Thiebaud’s blazing colors and paint application. She also finds her motivation for her works are self-discovery, which is the philosophy she incorporates when volunteering at the Free Arts of Arizona, an art program for “at risk” children.
