About John Asaro:
John Asaro is a Native Californian, born in 1937 near the City of San Diego and growing up around the beautiful beaches of Point Loma. Asaro studied art at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA from 1951-1958. In 1959, he continued studies at The Arts Students League, New York, NY. Asaro was motivated by Milford Ellison, a watercolor instructor. Asaro also drew inspiration from artists like Rembrandt, Rubens, Money, Sargent, Sorolla, Matisse and Bonnard.
Asaro subjects are often seen as personal and candid. He attempts to capture immediate, fleeting impressions and emotions rather than permanent aspects of a subject. He is known to sketch quickly outdoors to capture a moment before returning to the studio to finish the piece. He has experimented with a combination of palette knife and brush techniques.
