About Edward S. Curtis
Edward Sheriff Curtis was born in Wisconsin during the winter of 1868 to a poor farming family. Thus began his career as a photographer of Native American portraits and the American West.
Curtis’ work has been on display in museums such as the Library of Congress, the Peabody-Essex Museum, and multiple universities. He was also the author of many books of his photography. He died at the age of 84 in 1952.
