Ellen Gunn creates atmospheric landscapes that evoke emotional connections to coastal waters, distant mountains, and changing skies, inspired by her childhood near the Long Island Sound, summers in Maine, and her travels through Italy, France, and California. Her work captures the fleeting beauty of light, weather, and seasonal shifts, inviting viewers into a serene and expansive experience.
Ellen Gunn was born in Rockville Centre, New York, in 1951. She began her artistic studies in New York City before relocating to California, where she became involved in printmaking. Gunn honed her skills at the Kala Institute in Berkeley, working with etchings, and later continued her printmaking education at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. Her artistic practice is grounded in realism, with a focus on refining and observing the world around her.
