His technique with the palette knife gives his work a textured feel and movement that many other artists have tried to emulate. Behrens’ motivation comes from his strong passion to capture the “essence” of the places he visits around the world. He has been influenced by Monet, Van Gogh and Nicola Simbari, the Italian palette knife artist. Using bright, lush color, he transports the viewer to a more relaxing, exotic place through his focus on shadow, light, color, and the subtle nuances of these elements.
