About this artist

Ansel Easton Adams was born February 20, 1902 in San Francisco, California. He became known for his sharpened focus on creating pure black and white photographs of the American West. Adams was given his first camera on a trip to Yosemite National Park at the age of 14. His early photographic work with the Sierra Club led him to be contracted by the United States Department of the Interior to further photograph the national parks. Adams was a committed environmentalist and an icon for the 20th century conservation movement.
