Quiet Afternoon (22×30 signed & numbered lithograph on paper)

Harold Altman has been recognized by critics as one of the leading graphic artists in the United States and ranked among the finest printmakers in the world. He was born in New York City in 1924. He lived in central Pennsylvania in the small village of Lemont where a nineteenth century frame church served as his studio until his death in 2003. Altman received his artistic schooling at the Art Students League, Black Mountain College, the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, and the Cooper Union Art School. Altman spent one third of each year working in Paris where his lithographs are printed at L’Imprimerie Desjobert. The artist’s works have been exhibited at numerous galleries and museums both in the United States and abroad. He is represented in nearly every significant selection in the USA. Some of the museums with Altmans in their collections are the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the LA County Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Whitney Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and many more. His work can also be found in many museums throughout Europe. Altman received numerous awards, grants, and fellowships during his career. In 1985, an exhibition of his work sponsored by the City of Paris was held at the Trianon de Bagatelle in the Bois de Boulogne at which time Altman was presented with the Silver Medal of the City of Paris.
