James Wolford was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1958. Wolfard paints landscapes around the United States, with subject matter focusing on architectural and marine scenes. He completed his studies at The Kansas City Art Institute in 1981, and received a scholarship and a teaching fellowship at Boston University school of fine arts where he achieved his MFA.
Wolford enjoys painting urban subject matter, in addition to nautical art. He captures the intensity of light and the subtle nature of shadow on city buildings and rural landscapes alike. A contemporary realist, he paints scenes flooded with the warm light that moves fleetingly in the morning or dusk. His interest in the dynamic facets of ocean water inspires him to study closely the abstract qualities of reflection and wave motion. His seascapes are realistic and represent the Atlantic sailing life at its best.
