Born in Europe in 1933, Itzchak Tarkay was heavily Influenced by Matisse and Toulouse Lautrec. He is famous for his cafe scenes featuring women engaged in familiar conversation. Using loose lines & bold swaths of color he was a master at capturing subtle gestures and expression with minimal detail. He passed away in 2012.

Artist Itzchak Tarkay was born is 1935 in Austria. His Family spent a year in a concentration camp during WWII, and emigrated to Israel shortly after the war. In Israel, he studied art and attended the Avni Art Academy. Tarkay became world renowned for his colorful cafe scenes and confident, bold depictions of women. His expressionistic paintings and prints are reminiscent of Matisse and Toulouse-Lautrec. Itzchak Tarkay died on June 3, 2012 of heart failure at the age of 77.
