Born in Atlanta in 1968, Martin Quen grew up with a love for art, enjoying and studying the works of Rothko, Matisse, and Kandinsky.
At the age of 18, Quen became active in graffiti competitions and evolved to become a world recognized graffiti artist. He traveled to Madrid, Miami, and New York for these competitions which exposed him to a great variety of styles and influences.
His painting style had previously been a muted color palette. It eventually transformed to more of an emphasis on sophisticated compositions with bursts of color. Originally working mostly with oil, Martin began experimenting with encaustic as well as painting on plexi-glass and other surfaces. These small paintings have impact standing alone, or can be hung in groupings for larger spaces.
