About this artist

Born in 1953, Robin Morris is an Art Deco inspired artist who came to fame in 1982 with her first lithograph The Couple. Morris created what she called "New Deco" style. Morris came up with this style with the help of her background in art history, stating "Having studied art history, I see how different periods have established their own little niches and I do feel that maybe the 80s have been a time to recycle some old ideas and give them a new life.". Nancy Hermann writes in an article on Robin Morris from 1986 that "New Deco boasts images that by attitude and design are both flamboyant and fun. More colorful and consciously chic than the classic Deco of the 20s and 30s, Morris' New Deco is an art of panache and luxury styled for the 80s.". Morris's works are stylized and playful while also challenging to the viewer. She says "It is this contradiction I enjoy most about my work; Reality and imagination, juxtaposed, with a touch of humor." Robin Morris works have been on Radio City Music Hall program covers and Bloomingdales fabrics as part of her more commercial applications. Her work is desirable for any collector.
