Born in Chicago, Carlyn Janus graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago. Having worked professionally over 17 years within varied arts sectors such as fine art restoration, graphic design, and interior design, she began her career as a fine artist in 2012. She recently moved to New York City to continue her abstract painting and is represented in private collections and galleries throughout the US and Canada. Specializing in mixed media and acrylic painting, she produces abstract natural forms and nature-inspired scenes on both canvas and paper. Her surroundings inspire her subject matter, as she mixes the organic elements she sees into surreal, dream-like layers and textures. She calls this nature-based interpretation 'Dreamscape.' Neither tangible nor recognizable places, her paintings express distant memories and feelings that she translates into abstraction --- which can be interpreted by the viewer.
