James, Anthony
Born in 1942, Anthony James is a first generation American born of parents who emigrated from Greece in the early 1940s. James moved to Hollywood 18 years later to begin an acting career and became quite successful. He made his film debut in 1967 Academy Award winning picture, “In the Heat of the Night” and has appeared in more than 25 motion pictures including Clint Eastwood’s “Unforgiven”.
In the mid-nineties, James retired from acting and moved to Massachusetts to pursue his art career full time. His artwork has been well received and he has exhibited at galleries throughout the United States.
The artwork of Anthony James is abstract on an emotional level; he paints from within and the struggle between light and dark is evident on canvas. Though the subjects of the paintings are generally simplified to basic geometric shapes, the mix of colors creates an intricate pattern and a certain drama that overtakes the canvas. He continues to live and paint here in the Boston area.
