Trish Hurley studied Painting and Drawing at Swain School of Design where she received her BFA. Later, she achieved an MFA in Painting from the UMass Dartmouth. Originally from New England, she currently lives in Newport, R.I. teaching privately, as well as at Westport Art Group in Westport, MA and Community College of Rhode Island. Her artistic interests developed alongside a curiosity with nature – her artwork evolved from walks down forest paths, glances at city streets, or quiet time spent near the river. Inspired by abstract shapes and colors in loose freeing compositions, she creates visual studies with a palette knife before painting larger scale. Hurley captures the moment by “mimicking the scene and transpiring the sensual qualities of sound and temperature.”
Adoring crayons as a child, Hurley loves rich, vibrant color. As an adult, her colors evoke intense emotion. Her art has ambiance, thought, exaggeration, and excitement – as these are integral to her creative process.
