Trish Hurley Paintings:
Combining elements of plein air and studio painting, Trish Hurley captures the essence of the landscape as opposed to recording every detail of her subject. The artist’s technique involves the use of palette knife and her fingers to create loose, painterly compositions with a semi-abstract feel. Using contrasting blocks of color to achieve depth and perspective her paintings convey motion, as well as the variable mood and atmosphere of the natural world.
Trish Hurley Biography
Trish Hurley studied Painting and Drawing at Swain School of Design where she received her BFA. Later, she achieved an MFA in Painting from the UMass Dartmouth. Originally from New England, she currently lives in Newport, R.I. teaching privately, as well as at Westport Art Group in Westport, MA and Community College of Rhode Island. Her artistic interests developed alongside a curiosity with nature – her artwork evolved from walks down forest paths, glances at city streets, or quiet time spent near the river. Inspired by abstract shapes and colors in loose freeing compositions, she creates visual studies with a palette knife before painting larger scale.
