A prolific New England artist who painted landscapes, seascapes and still-life, Gruppe became well known for his atmospheric, semi-abstract harbor scenes of Gloucester, Cape Cod and Maine.  Charles has won numerous awards for his work including The Salamagundi Club, Hudson Valley Art Association award, and numerous others.

Charles Gruppe (1928-2019) Charles Gruppe was an accomplished artist who studied at Yale and received his Masters of Fine Art at Columbia University. Charles was part of an artistic family. His grandfather Charles Paul Gruppe was a well-known artist, and his uncle Emille Gruppe was a widely collected artist associated with the Rockport School. Charles' father was also an accomplished cellist.
